ZTE Grand X Available On PAYG For Under £200
New flagship ZTE device will be released on Virgin Media next month
ZTE has unveiled its new flagship smartphone, the ZTE Grand X, which it says will bring a high-end smartphone experience to a wider audience when it is launched next month.
The Grand X will be available through Virgin Media and Phones 4U, costing £189.99 on pay as you go and available on contracts starting from £24 a month with the MVNO, or £19 if you are already a Virgin Media customer.
The Chinese manufacturer says that the release of the smartphone reaffirms its commitment to establishing its brand as a dominant force in the mobile market and its target of becoming the third largest mobile manufacturer by the end of this year
ZTE only started selling smartphones under its own brand in the UK last year, having manufactured devices for other companies previously.
Grand X Intentions
The Grand X boasts a 1GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 dual-core processor, 512MB of RAM and 4GB of memory which can be expanded to 32GB via a Micro SD card. It is powered by version 4.0 of Android, Ice Cream Sandwich and has a 5 megapixel rear-facing camera and 0.3 megapixel front-facing camera.
ZTE is positioning the phone as an entertainment device, with Dolby Mobile Sound, its 4.3 inch touchscreen capable of displaying 16 million colours and access to the Tegra Zone marketplace provided as evidence of its intentions.
It joins other ZTE devices that have been released this year, the Windows Phone-powered ZTE Tania and the recently launched ZTE Kis, and the company says its release completes the journey from the low-end to the high end of the market.
“ZTE Grand X brings high-end mobile video and gaming within the reach of a whole new audience,” said He Shiyou, ZTE European vice president and head of the Terminals Division. “It provides a world of entertainment in a single device – combining high quality and a wide range of functions for a great mobile multimedia experience.”
“We’re enjoying a great partnership with ZTE, having already launched two handsets with them this year, and their latest phone, the Grand X, is a fantastic addition to our extensive smartphone range,” added Jamie Heywood, director of mobile at Virgin Media.
