Yahoo Traffic Grows To 800m Monthly Users As Mayer Revival Continues

Yahoo’s recent revival under Marissa Mayer looks set to continue as the company’s CEO now claims it attracts 800 million active global users a month, a 20 percent increase from July.

Mayer says the increase has been fuelled by 350 million monthly mobile users and growth in traffic to the Yahoo homepage, search and other services, but not from the recent acquisition of blogging platform Tumblr, which it acquired for £725 million in May.

However she warns that despite the good news, it will take three or more years to return growth to the level she wants.

Yahoo traffic

This does not extend to the new logo Yahoo unveiled earlier this month, replacing branding that had been unchanged for 18 years. Mayer likes the new identity, but admits there will continual changes to the design.

Yahoo scored more unique visitors than any other web-based company in the US in the month of July, according to figures which also excluded those from Tumblr, which was acquired as part of a spending spree which has seen the firm buy a number of companies.

The rise in mobile users will be particularly pleasing for Mayer, which has identified smartphones and tablets as a particular area of growth for Yahoo, and has consolidated the number of mobile applications since she assumed to the reigns last year.

There have been some other casualties, including search engine Alta Vista and its Chinese services earlier this month.
