Xerox Talks Green With New Colour Printers

Xerox continues to announce new products after the printing giant revealed a line of colour multifunction printers equipped with features designed to help small and midsize businesses and large workgroups boost productivity.

The WorkCentre 7545 and WorkCentre 7556 colour MFPs (multi function printers) offer colour print speeds up to 45 and 50 pages per minute (ppm) and 45 and 55 ppm black and white, respectively.

The printers, which can copy, scan, fax and e-mail, also include document management and workflow tools. The WorkCentre 7545 and WorkCentre 7556 are currently available in North America through Xerox direct sales, authorised sales agents and Global Imaging Systems. The US list price starts at $19,398 (£12,244), according to information provided by the company.

Productivity Focus

The printers offer four features and software tools to help give businesses more control to create documents with enhanced colour, including image quality with 1200 by 2400 dpi output resolution, the application Color by Words, a color-editing tool that allows for accurate and vibrant colours on the first print, an optional EFI Fiery print server, which provides graphic arts capabilities and accelerated print processing that routes jobs to appropriate MFPs and user permissions that can be set to ensure only authorised users have access to colour printing.

“Xerox continues to introduce new products that respond to today’s fast-paced, changing work environment,” said Rick Dastin, president of Xerox’s enterprise business group. “These new MFPs offer better ways to manage documents, making our customers more productive and efficient, and ultimately, more competitive.”

Additional features include a walk-up print and scan USB port located on the front of the machines, the ability to scan to network mailboxes or PCs to automatically route documents to a predefined file for fast retrieval, text-searchable files to find and search scanned documents and Xerox’s EIP (Extensible Interface Platform) technology to design customized workflow applications.

The new MFPs come equipped with security features as well, including hard disk encryption, image overwrite to electronically “shred” data and fax isolation to prevent unauthorised access to data and network authentication to restrict access to scan, email and fax features.

Green Refinements

The WorkCentre 7545 and WorkCentre 7556 also offer a handful of green technology refinements, including Earth Smart print driver defaults that can be set to include two-sided printing, sample print, no banners and 2-up printing, Xerox’s Emulsion Aggregate Ultra Low-Melt toner and induction heat fusing designed to reduce equipment energy use, an LED scanner the company said consumes one-third less power than traditional scanners and meeting Energy Star qualifications.

At Graph Expo 2010 in Chicago this week, the company will introduce more than a dozen printing tools designed to save organizations money and time, including the Nuvera Flex Speed Program, which temporarily increases engine speed as production needs dictate, and VIPP Pro Publisher, which allows users to select the clear dry ink option available on the Xerox Color 800/1000 presses in one step within Adobe InDesign.

Xerox also will announce two colour management services to help print providers become more productive and consistent with Xerox digital colour devices. With Colour Consulting Services, Xerox consultants help implement colour control systems and set up workflows that match colour across multiple printing processes. Advanced Color Management training for the Xerox iGen3, iGen4 and Colour 800/1000 presses includes colour fundamentals such as designing for digital printing techniques, printing from Adobe applications and using clear dry ink.
