The World Wildlife Fund (WWF), one of the world’s largest conservation organisations, is to launch its own mobile service in the UK, called WWF Wildlife Mobile.
Using the slogan ‘every conversation helps conservation’, WWF Wildlife Mobile will target members of the organisation as well as “ethical and environmentally-aware” consumers.
The service will donate ten percent of net revenue of all voice calls, texts and data sessions to WWF and promises cheaper standard rates than other major UK operators. WWF Wildlife Mobile is a SIM-only service with pay as you go tariffs available from launch and pay-monthly offerings to be offered at a later date.
“We are seeing a significant increase in the demand for products, and services, that deliver genuine social or environmental benefits,” said Robert Jolliffe, co-founder of Digital Spring Mobile. “Now is the perfect time for charities to tap into this market and we’re absolutely delighted to be working with such an innovative organisation as WWF. The power of the brand and its resonance with ethical consumers makes WWF Wildlife Mobile an exceptional fund raising proposition.”
Digital Spring has agreed a deal with mobile virtual network aggregator (MVNA) Cognatel, which will provide technology, billing and strategic support to sustain the WWF service and is backed up by the Vodafone network.
“Charities are always looking for new and imaginative ways to raise awareness and generate funds,” said Mark Ashdown, CEO of Cognatel. “This new mobile business model will allow charities like the WWF to implement a self-funding, revenue generating model that creates greater affinity with its supporters. In our capacity as an MVNA we have provided Digital Spring Mobile, and WWF with UK-wide coverage and supporting network services.”
Another charitable MVNO, The People’s Operator, launched in November last year, promising to donate 25 percent of its profits to good causes. In addition, charitable organisations could receive up to ten percent of the text, call and data spend of any customer they refer to the network.
