Vodafone Ships Windows Phone 8 Handsets Today

Vodafone has finally revealed its Windows Phone 8 line-up – more than three months after the first handsets running the platform were released in the UK. It will offer smartphones from HTC and Nokia, including the flagship Nokia Lumia 920, becoming the first carrier other than EE to do so.

The operator was notably absent during Microsoft’s launch presentation, when deals for EE, O2 and Three were all mentioned. Vodafone says that it has been working “day and night” to get the smartphones through its network tests unscathed and will be available from today.

“We’re pleased to announce that from today our customers in the UK can get their hands on a wide range of Windows Phone 8 devices,” said Srini Gopalan, consumer director of Vodafone UK. “We know there is a lot of interest in both the Windows Phone experience and the range of smartphones that use it. As well as providing consumers with a personalised experience, designed to keep them closer to what matters most to them in their lives, Windows Phone also helps business users stay in touch with the office wherever they are.”

The Nokia Lumia 920 is free on a £42 a month two year Vodafone Red Data Plan, while the Nokia Lumia 820 is free on deals starting at £33 a month, as is the HTC 8X. At the other end of the spectrum, the lower spec Lumia 620 and HTC 8S are free on deals starting at £21 a month.

Both the Lumia 820 and 920 are ‘4G-ready’ and will be compatible with Vodafone’s LTE service when it launches later this year.
