Vodafone Rolls Out HD Voice For Better Call Quality
Vodafone says HD Voice is latest part of £1 billion spending programme
Vodafone is rolling out ‘HD voice’ to its UK customers, improving the quality of calls made over the operator’s 3G network.
HD voice is available when a user is contacting another Vodafone customer on a compatible device, with 4G customers also able to benefit when their phone switches to a 3G signal.

The operator says HD voice captures sound waves twice as fast as standard calls and uses a broader range of frequencies to match the pitch and tone in human speech. It also reduces background noise to a minimum and claims to improve the quality of conference calls.
“Our HD Voice brings our best call quality to our customers,” said Vodafone UK technology director Fergal Kelly. “It is another important step towards our commitment to deliver our strongest ever network to the UK.”
HD Voice is compatible with 60 devices and Vodafone promises more will be added soon. Recent handsets such as the iPhone 5S and HTC One (M8) work with the service but older models like the iPhone 4S and Samsung Galaxy S3 do not.
The Newbury-based firm says he rollout is part of a £1 billion investment in its UK this year a part of the wider £19 billion ‘Project Spring’ programme of spending across its worldwide business. Earlier his year, the company made its first call using Voice over LTE (VoLTE) technology, which has been included in the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, which were revealed by Apple earlier this week.
