Vodafone extends 4G to more customers to celebrate one year since it launched LTE

Vodafone is celebrating the first anniversary of the launch of its 4G network by offering LTE services to its pay-as-you-go customers.

Any user who takes out a ‘Red Freedom Freebee’ PAYG tariff of £20 or more is eligible for the faster service, with more expensive plans eligible for the added bonus of a Sky Sports Mobile TV or Spotify Premium subscription.

The cheapest plan includes 500 minutes worth of calls, unlimited texts and 2GB of data, but £30 will get you 4GB and unlimited calls and texts, while £40 will boost that to 6GB.

Vodafone LeedsAll PAYG customers will have 30 days of unlimited data to see which plan is best for their needs, and will be eligible for a discounted Vodafone Smart 4 Turbo or Smart 4 Power smartphone.

“Over the past year we’ve already signed up well over a million Pay monthly customers to our 4G service and are now opening up this great opportunity to our Pay as you go customers,” says Cindy Rose, Consumer Director, Vodafone UK.

Vodafone’s 4G network is now available in 304 large towns and cities, with the operator boasting 500,000 LTE subscribers. However, this is significantly less than EE, which has 4.2 million 4G users and boasts 75 percent population coverage.

4G rollout forms a significant part of Vodafone’s £1 billion investment into its UK network, which will see its 2G, 3G and 4G infrastructure upgraded and 150 new shops opened, creating 1,400 jobs. The Newbury, Berkshire-based firm recently celebrated  the 30th birthday of the Vodafone brand and announced plans to invest £19 billion across all of its worldwide networks in the next two years.
