£10,700 Vertu For Bentley Targets Fans Of Luxury Smartphones And Fast Cars

Vertu has revealed the first product of its five year partnership with Bentley, the £10,700 ‘Vertu for Bentley’, which like other handsets from the British  luxury smartphone manufacturer, is built from extravagant materials and boasts a range of exclusive services, including custom Bentley content.

The Vertu for Bentley is made from lightweight but durable grade-5 titanium, quilted calf leather and a 4.7-inch solid saphphire crystal display that claims to be “virtually” scratch-proof.

The leather is the “classic” Bentley shade of Newmarket Tan, has a discreet Bentley logo on the front and on the back is the engraved signature of the craftsman who hand built the device at Vertu’s factory in Church Crookham, Hampshire.

The device claims to use the best in class technology and is powered by a 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, Android 4.4 Kit Kat and 64GB of internal memory. There’s a 13 megapixel camera boosted by imaging technology from Hasselblad, while audio is enhanced with Bang & Olufsen and Dolby Digital’s involvement. Other features include support for Near Field Communication and Qi wireless charging.

Vertu’s suite of services are pre-loaded onto the phone, including Veru Concierge and Vertu Life, which offers access to exclusive events and members clubs.  A Vertu for Bentley app features links to official content, invites to Bentley events, information on dealers and acts as a touch screen remote for Vertu Flying Spur drivers. Custom Bentley wallpapers, clocks and animations are also included.

British brand collaboration

Established by Nokia in 1998, Vertu has produced some of the most expensive phones in the world. Its phones can only be purchased from 500 retailers, including 70 of its own boutiques, but there are believed be more than 300,000 Vertu owners around the world. Nokia sold Vertu to a Swedish private equity firm last year in a transaction believed to be worth around £162.5 million.

Recent handsets by the company include the £4,100 Vertu Constellation and the £6,700 Vertu Signature Touch, which promises to encrypt users’ communications.
