UK Broadband Relish Offers Unlimited Wireless Broadband Over 4G

UK Broadband’s new Relish service is to offer superfast broadband to consumers and SMBs in central London over its LTE network, promising to be cheaper and more flexible than landline alternatives.

Relish does not require a landline, meaning users save on landline costs for services they don’t need, imposes no data caps and will not slow users down at peak times. Additionally, no engineer is required to install the equipment and month-to-month rolling contracts are likely to appeal to renters, students or pop-up businesses that are likely to move often.

“Central London is home to some of the world’s most talented and busy people, who have to suffer long delays in getting their broadband service set up and pay a ‘landline tax’ for a service they often don’t need,” says Nicholas James, CEO UK Broadband. “Relish wants to give Londoners the broadband they deserve – and will shake up the market with a fair and transparent service that meets the digital demands of modern Londoners.”

Home broadband deals start from £20 a month and come with a Huawei-manufactured router that can connect up to 25 devices. The router costs £50 but is free if users sign up to a 12 month contract. Business deals start from £25 a month, however customers must sign up for a year.

Relish is also offering mobile Wi-Fi services which can either be combined with home and business broadband packages or bought individually. The cheapest deal costs £10 a month for 1GB of data, while 20GB costs £35 a month.

The up to 65Mbps service makes use of UK Broadband’s 3.5GHz and 3GHz spectrum, which is the highest frequency for mobile services in the UK. These bands offer high capacity, which makes them ideal for a bustling metropolis like London, but have poor range.

Coverage is limited to central London at present, ranging from Kensington in the west to Canary Wharf in the East, but there is virtually no service south of the river. UK Broadband is looking to expand its reach beyond the centre of London, but anyone who takes up its Mobile Wi-Fi service can also has access to Three’s nationwide 3G network.

UK Broadband is also looking to offer Relish in other UK towns and cities but has not specified which areas it will target first. However it does operate 4G networks in Reading, Swindon and Scunthorpe, which could be among the first locations outside London to receive the service.
