Dropbox is one of the most popular cloud storage services that exists today, possibly because it offers 2GB of storage for free, but also because of its reliability. Pro accounts are also on offer, with a lot more space, for a small fee each month .

The Cisco WebEx Meetings app is a versatile tool that lets you have meetings wherever you are. Through the app you are able to dip in and out of any web conference through its two-way video and a camera switching facility.
The thing that sets WebEx apart from other video conferencing apps is that files can be attached to a meeting space, allowing for realtime sharing – so you can pitch a presentation or discuss Excel spreadsheets, live and face to face, from anywhere in the world.
Cisco sells upgrade options with extra features, but the free version supports three people per meeting with standard-quality video and 250MB of storage.
3. Skype

You can use this app to make free calls to other Skype users, or chat by instant message, making it a great facility for anyone traveling internationally and needing to keep in touch.
Although Skype charges you low data rates over 3G, it is free over WiFi, and it allows you send and receive instant messages for free.
It also offers low cost calls and text messages to mobiles and landlines and you can send photos, videos and files of any size for free too.
4. Tripit

This clever app turns your smartphone into a pocket-sized personal assistant. You simply forward all your flight, hotel and car hire bookings to Tripit and it creates a digital itinerary for your journey that you can print out or share online.
A must download for business travellers, it allows you to access itineraries at anytime, on any device (even offline). It gives you directions, local maps and weather outlook for each destination, and it also has the facility to sync your trip plans with your Google Calendar or Outlook.
5. JetLag Genie

Jet lag can be a real curse for transatlantic travellers, and this app is one pocket helper that promises to minimise its effects.
Simply upload your travel dates, destination and ‘usual’ bedtime into this app and it spits out a set of personalised alarm clocks to soften the jet-lag blow.
One clever aspect of the JetLag Genie app is that it helps you to create a customised plan of action that is based on your specific flight information and sleeping patterns. This customised plan gives you daily lists of necessary actions to take, and includes live notifications to tell you when it’s time to wake, sleep, get sunshine, sit in the dark or take a nap.
Whether or not you’ll be able to do these things on a business trip when it tells you is another matter!

Evernote is one of those apps which any business traveller will wonder how they ever lived without it – incredibly handy when you’re on the go. Evernote is a cloud-based service, which stores notes, photos, voice recordings and whole web pages online.
You can enter, update and search for notes whilst on the move and it’s invaluable for storing little bits of info during trips, such as shopping lists and saving photos for later reference.

Move over Urbanspoon, it’s time for Yelp. While both offer crowd-sourced reviews of cafes and restaurants based on your current location, Yelp goes that little bit further by adding other types of businesses.
When you’re away for work the Yelp app allows you discover great local businesses such as nearby restaurants, shops, services and office locations.
You can filter search results by neighborhood, distance, rating, price, and see whether or not they are open now – it also features millions of reviews written by a community of active, expert locals, so you know you are not going to end up somewhere below par.
