New Three SIM-Only Deals Offer Free 0800 Calls And Up to 4GB Tethering

Three has refreshed its SIM-only plans with tariffs that offer free calls to 0800 numbers and a tethering limit of 4GB for all-you-can-eat data customers.

Calls to 0800, 0808 and 0500 numbers are free and fall outside a user’s normal voice allowance, while calls to numbers such as 084 and 087 cost 5p per minute, with Three promising there are caps to prevent customers from exceeding limits or spending too much on expensive numbers.

Customers can choose from a one-month or 12-month contract, comprising a voice allowance and a choice of 500MB, 1GB, 2GB, 4GB or unlimited data allowances. This can be increased at any time should a user find they are exceeding this limits.

Three SIM only deals

The cheapest rolling contract costs £13 for 600 minutes and 1GB of data a month and the most expensive is £26 a month for unlimited data and minutes. The most inexpensive 12 month deal is £7 for 200 minutes and 500MB of data, with unlimited data and minutes costing £23.

Anyone wanting to use their phone abroad however should be warned that new customers won’t be able to use their SIM away from the UK for the first month, meaning they can’t take advantage of the operator’s Feel At Home service.

“People want choice and control so they are able to enjoy their devices without worrying about bill shock,” says Tom Malleschitz, Three marketing director. “These SIM-only plans give them exactly that.”

Three scrapped 0800 charges for its pay monthly customers earlier this year, claiming UK mobile users spend £600 million each year on non-geographic numbers. However it also decreased the tethering limit on new deals to 2GB at the same time.
