Tesco Mobile Offers ‘Accessible’ £2.50 4G Plans

Tesco Mobile is offering customers the chance to upgrade to a 4G plan for an additional £2.50 premium on any existing tariff and the ability to add and remove 4G or change their data allowance whenever they want.

The Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) promises to offer a range of smartphones, along with Anytime Upgrade plans that separate the cost of the handset from the price plan. The cheapest tariff is £10 for 500MB of data and 250 minutes, while caps prevent users from bill shock.

Simon Groves, chief marketing officer of Tesco Mobile and Tesco Telecoms, says its tariffs reflect that not everyone understands 4G and are designed to make the technology more accessible.

“4G is amazing and will revolutionise the way we use our mobile phones so of course we want to make it accessible and easy for all our customers to try it and enjoy it,” he explains. “As Tesco Mobile launches 4G we’re bringing it to all our customers at a great value price and if it’s not for them, they can switch back to 3G or adjust their 4G data allowance to suit their needs whenever they like.”

EE, O2 and Vodafone all currently have LTE networks, but Tesco Mobile is the first MVNO to offer 3G. It is using O2’s network to deliver its services, meaning coverage is available in Birmingham, Bradford, Coventry, Leeds, Leicester, London, Nottingham and Sheffield.

Three will launch its own 4G service this December in four cities before expanding to 42 more locations in 2014.
