TechWeekEurope’s Windows 8 Quiz Winner Announced

Last month, TechWeekEurope added a twist to one of our usual Friday quizzes: anyone who would fill in a short form, in addition to answering to 15 tricky questions about Windows 8, automatically entered a prize draw. One of the participants would win Panasonic Toughpad FZ-G1, a rugged, waterproof Windows 8 tablet worth over £2000.

We can now reveal that this wonderful device will be sent out to Tim Brading, an ICT consultant at Impel IT, who admits he has a soft spot for Microsoft’s latest OS.

Like marmite

It’s been almost nine months since the launch of Windows 8, but the controversial operating system still maintains its Marmite-like qualities. It has been criticised for its confusing marketing campaign, reliance on touch interaction, lack of the familiar ‘Start’ button and even blamed for the decline of the PC market in general.

At the same time, there are plenty of people who love its colourful square grid interface, fast boot times, optimised use of RAM and other improvements ‘under the hood’. Our winner Tim Brading fits in the second category.

“It was a challenging and stimulating competition that allowed me to put my 22 years of Microsoft Windows experience to test. Windows 8 is built on the reliability and stability of Windows 7, whilst adding the ease of use of a tablet.  As an IT professional, I need an operating system I can rely on, and I choose to use Windows 8,” told us the lucky owner of a new Toughpad.

“Panasonic have always been at the forefront of rugged portable computing, and I am excited to see that this has extended to an impressive specification tablet running Microsoft Windows 8.”
