TechWeekEurope To Chair Green IT Debate
Green IT could change everything – but what are the sticking points? Come to the debate next week.
Green tech comes under the microscope next week, as TechWeekEurope’s Peter Judge chairs a special evening debate on the future direction of Sustainable and Green IT.
How green is the cloud, and how much can IT really do to rein in industry’s carbon emissions? Green IT in the Real World: The Challenges and Opportunities, a Green In The City event, in London’s Moorgate, will look at IT’s role as organisations struggle to come to terms with sustainability, energy consumption, and cutting carbon emissions.
Fighting indifference
Energy efficiency could reduce a company’s bills, as well as help the UK’s looming national energy shortage and address the global issue of climate change. Despite this, Forrester Research has found that only 25 percent of IT executives have a comprehensive Green IT plan in place.
Despite figures like that, Green IT is still a growing movement, and next week’s panel will bring together some of its most committed and charismatic advocates.
Panel members include
- Kate Craig-Wood co-founder and MD of green cloud provider Memset
- Peter Hopton, chairman at VeryPC, CTO at Iceotope and member of the BCS’ Green IT committee
- Jonathan Bryers Partner at CT Investment Partners LLP
- Benjamin Kott CEO of EnergyDeck (previously Google’s Green Business Operations Manager)
The debate will get to the heart of the promise of Green IT, including the problems it faces, and includes time to network with Green IT experts. It starts at 6pm, at Smith & Williamson, 5 Moorgate, London, EC2R 6AY, United Kingdom.
