TalkTalk has suffered a major outage this morning, paralysing both its Internet and voice services across the network.
“We’re experiencing a technical issue this morning that means you can’t access our website, or visit MyAccount, at the moment. We are sorry about this and are working hard to get this resolved as soon as we can,” read an error message on TalkTalk’s site earlier this morning.
According to the company, the technical problem also disrupted voice services for some customers, making them unable to make or receive calls “for a short time”.
It appears that the company’s services are now up and running, but during the problem, users who visited the TalkTalk Network Status page for updates on the network’s condition were greeted with an apology message: “unfortunately this service is currently unavailable”.
According to the communication regulator, TalkTalk was the most complained about fixed-line ISP. Between October 2010 and February 2011, its landline service received 1.78 complaints for every 1,000 customers who expressed their dissatisfaction with Ofcom, while its broadband offering fetched 1.27 complaints.
Currently, TalkTalk is the third largest ISP in the UK after BT and Virgin Media. In the final quarter of 2010, however, the company’s customer base shrunk from 4.3 million to 4.2 million.
The company has attributed its problems to the absorption of the customer base of Tiscali , a process which involved billing problems, and led to many complaints to Ofcom.

I have been with talk talk for a few years now, not happy with their service, atleast once a week at midnight i lose all connections and phonelines go dead, i would go elsewhere but talk talk is the only provider that will give me 3 meg around here (small village), Ive complained at times, but they say nothing is wrong, told me to go and buy a new router as mine is old, hmmm, they supplied me with it, so i tink they should send me a new router.........
i had used a virginmedia broadband for 5 years without problem and network faster,i have changed of talktalk's broadband since 5 week ago but very slower runner and not good quality i would going back to virginmedia but i cant because talktalk gave me 12 month contact i know its wrongful, shouldnt be 12 month contact if they are poor quality
We left BT years ago to join talk talk. after a couple of years we had a problem with my outside phone line. The phone wouldn't work without it screeching high pitched noises and the internet was very slow. talk talk were brilliant, the only problem we had getting it fixed came from 'BT'! This was due to the fact that talk talk and most of our internet connections come from BT Head exchange department. They were determined to ignore our reqest for new outside cable and only got fixed because of the efforts of talk talk and myself 'pestering them', they finally got my line replaced. I have used many ISP providers before talk talk and the rotten experiences we had were draining. So talk talk I personally think your services and customer services are professional. Oh and by the way, every ISP have their problems from time to time, its all part of our learning to prevent future problems, after all this technology is still relatively new. I wouldn't give any other provider the time of day. :)
wish they'd be more upfront when things go wrong. I run a much smaller network than theirs and we would have to tell our customers when and how things went wrong. After we had a couple of bad config mishaps we started using Restorepoint from tadasoft, was told some isps use it obviously not them though
