TalkTalk Business Pitches Cheap Ethernet Over FTTC Service

TalkTalk Business is now offering UK companies cost effective Ethernet-style services, running over OpenReach’s Fibre-To-The-Cabinet (FTTC) so customers can have a wide area Ethernet service without having to have fibre laid to their premises.

The so-called Ethernet over FTTC  (EoFTTC) services, capable of delivering a service which otherwise would  only have been available over fibre to the premises, at a substantially higher cost.

The company says EoFTTC bridges the gap between traditional broadband services and its full-fibre Ethernet services, offering guaranteed symmetrical speeds of up 20Mbps. It promises EoFTTC is one of the final developments within its current framework, the end point of which is Fibre to the Premises (FTTP).

EoFTTC rollout

This rollout is supported by TalkTalk’s Ethernet exchange network, which it claims is four times larger than that of its rival BT. It has increased the number of its Ethernet-enabled exchanges by 35 percent from 2,199 to 2,980. All of these exchanges will support EoFTTC.

“We’ve had a fantastic first half-year and it’s great to see our partner channel playing a real part in that,” says Alex Tempest, director of partners at TalkTalk Business. “By focusing on products that leverage our network efficiently, such as VPNs, SIP trunks and connectivity solutions, we’re able to provide our channel partners with margin-rich opportunities and a data portfolio that continues to attract attention.

“Coupled with the ongoing expansion of our Ethernet exchange network we expect this to make a big impact in the industry.”

TalkTalk Business provides communications services to more than 180,000 business and public sector customers in the UK and says it has secured a number of new partners during the first six months of the year, including re-seller Fluidata and Peach Telecom.
