Students Get Windows 7 For £30

After much criticism of the Windows 7’s complex price structure, Microsoft is offering a reduced price for students – but as with other Windows 7 deals, the cost is higher in Europe.

With Windows 7 due to be launched on 22 October, Microsoft has been slated for charging more for Windows 7 in Europe, and also for making the OS pricing complex. In response, the company has claimed that the new OS will save money, and also offered a 90 day trial version to IT pros.

Now it is the turn of students, who in the UK have the option to pre-order the new operating system for £30. The deal is for upgrades to Windows 7 Home Premium or Professional versions – not the ultimate Ultimate version – and is only available to people with a valid academic email address (.ac.uk), who are already running XP or Vista. Full prices for Home Premium or Professional, are £79.99 and £189.99.

Students who want Windows 7 shouldn’t look a gift horse in the mouth, but the equivalent offer in America gives US students a price of $30 – or around £18
