Splunk, a company which develops the eponymous machine data analytics platform, has announced plans to acquire mobile start-up BugSense.
BugSense creates tools to monitor and improve performance of mobile apps through analytics. Its products support Android, iOS, HTML5, Windows Phone and Windows 8 apps. The deal will enhance Splunk Enterprise and add the ability to mine machine data generated by mobile devices.
The acquisition is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2013, with no financial details available at this point.
BugSense, founded by a team of enthusiast developers in 2011, uses Big Data analytics to measure mobile app performance, quality and usage in real-time. The software can then visualise the information, and help fix errors with its advanced troubleshooting features.
“Enterprise applications and IT investments are increasingly shifting to mobile, making it an important source of data for operational intelligence,” said Godfrey Sullivan, Chairman and CEO of Splunk. “BugSense has a strong mobile development team and is an exciting addition to our product portfolio.
“Our goal is to make it easier for customers to gain insights from machine data generated by mobile devices, along with other machine-generated data, across Splunk’s core use cases in IT operations, security, application management and business analytics.”
“We have admired Splunk over the years and are pleased to join a growing organization that is a leader in big data analytics,” commented Jon Vlachoyiannis, co-founder and CTO at BugSense.
TechWeekEurope will be reporting form the annual Splunk .conf2013, which will take place in Las Vegas from 30 September to 3 October.
