Sony Announces Mid-Range Xperia E1 And Xperia T2 Ultra Phablet

Sony has announced the mid-range Sony Xperia E1 and the Sony Xperia T2 Ultra and Sony Xperia T2 Ultra Dual phablets as it looks to increase its share of the worldwide smartphone market.

The Japanese manufacturer says the Xperia T2 Ultra, along with its dual SIM variant, is targeted at developing markets in China, the Middle East and Asia.

The handset boasts a six-inch HD display powered by Bravia technology that extends to within 2.5 mm of the phone’s edges, giving it a 73.6 percent screen to phone size percentage and ensures it is no wider than a credit card.

Sony promises that the display will not be a battery hog either, thanks to an efficient 1.4 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and the firm’s STAMINA technology. The T2 Ultra has a 13 megapixel rear-facing camera, 1.1 megapixel front facing sensor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage that can be expanded by up to 32GB through a MicroSD card slot, and NFC and LTE connectivity.

Sony says the mid-range Xperia E1 brings together its audio, design and display technology into a smartphone that’s the “best in its class”. It promises clear and loud sound quality with specific Walkman controls and an application which combines online and offline music.

Its modest specs include four inch WVGA display, 1.2GHz Qualcomm dual core processor, 512MB of RAM and 4GB of storage.

Last year, Sony announced a number of smartphones, including the Sony Xperia Z and the Sony Xperia Z Ultra phablet as it sought to establish itself as the third largest manufacturer behind Samsung and Apple.
