TechWeekEurope’s Tom Brewster Is BT Information Security Journalist Of The Year

TechWeekEurope’s Deputy Editor Tom Brewster was named Information Security Journalist of the Year 2012 at the BT Information Security Journalism Awards in London.

He impressed the judging panel with a number of features and investigations on topics such as the fight against botnets and weak SSL (Secure Sockets Layers) security at universities to beat off competition for the top prize from fellow nominees Wendy Grossman, Katia Moskvitch of BBC News and Davey Winder of PC Pro.

Security journalist of the year

Tom was also nominated in two other categories. His investigation into the DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) market earned recognition in the Best Investigative Feature of the Year category, while he was also a contender for Best Cybercrime Feature of the Year.

The judging panel was chaired by Ray Stanton, vice president of BT Advise, BT Global Services and included a number of security experts and academics.

“Once again enormous credit should go to all of our shortlisted journalists,” said Stanton. “Each has demonstrated an ability to write in an accessible and engaging way, ask difficult questions, uncover emerging trends and move the security debate forward.”

“These awards are a testament to the vital role that journalism plays in raising awareness among businesses and the public about the issues surrounding security and the solutions that can be implemented to mitigate the risks,” he added.
