SAP Anchors Cloud Platform With HANA Database

Enterprise software giant SAP has announced that its HANA in-memory database computing technology is now available for business use in the cloud, SAP told its SAPPHIRE NOW conference in Orlando, Florida.

Service Pack 8

The new Cloud platform includes mobile, analytics, data services and cloud integration services, all of which are delivered through open user interfaces. For SAP users the development comes as part of the new release of service pack 8 (SP8) for SAP HANA.

Customers can opt to use SAP’s ecosystem of partners, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Intel E7v2 processor-based systems, multiple third-party high availability and disaster recovery solutions and an expanded network of 20 partners certified to support solutions powered by SAP HANA in the cloud.

Alternatively, there are also three standardised and packaged turnkey solutions for the SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud service.

“Today’s announcements show that SAP HANA is the modern platform for all applications, enabling customers to truly innovate and transform their businesses in the cloud,” said Steve Lucas, president, Platform Solutions, SAP AG. “With continued innovations in SAP HANA, mobile and Big Data combined with dramatically simpler migration to the cloud, SAP provides enhanced integration for our customers.”

SAP said that users of HANA SP8 can also deploy business intelligence and data visualisation software SAP Lumira in order to provide real-time analytic capabilities.

The German software giant also said that customers can now use SAP HANA Cloud Integration technology as a stand-alone solution for all integration requirements.

SAP is locked in a constant battle with arch-rivals Oracle and Software AG for market share in database, cloud middleware and application services. Earlier this year the company revealed that SAP HANA was a key growth factor for the company in 2013. HANA software revenue increased a whopping 69 percent in 2013 to $902 million.

In March this year, Hewlett-Packard launched the first converged infrastructure system for users of SAP’s HANA.
