Samsung Promotes SSDs With A Facebook Game And Giveaway
Catch an SSD flying across the screen, and you can win a real PC upgrade
Samsung has launched a Facebook game that will reward two players with its 840 EVO Solid State Drives (SSDs) every day until the end of May.
The game is meant to promote the whole of the company’s SSD line-up, which includes SSD 840 PRO and SSD 840 EVO in both desktop and laptop varieties.
‘Fastest drive on Earth’
The 840 EVO is an SSD of distinction: it was Samsung’s first Triple Level Cell (TLC) drive when it was launched in 2013, and it continues to be one of the best ‘price-to-performance’ consumer flash drives on the market.
TLC is a type of NAND memory that stores three bits of data per cell of flash media – this allows a cell to store a total of eight different states, giving it twice the capacity of the traditional Multi Level Cell memory at a comparable price.
True to this notion, 840 EVO is available in sizes ranging from 120GB to massive and yet affordable 1TB. The drives comes in a 2.5-inch form-factor, are compatible with SATA 6Gb/s interface, and can write large files at speeds up to 520 MB/s and read them at speeds up to 540 MB/s.
So what does the game look like? It’s all about reaction time – players have to catch a tiny SSD flying across the screen with their cursor if they are playing on a PC, or finger if they are playing on mobile. It’s over in a flash (pun intended) and this author’s personal best stands at 0.55 seconds.
