Samsung Knox Approved For Classified Information By US Government

Samsung Knox-enabled mobile devices can now be used by US government officials to handle classified information, following the addition of a number of handsets to the Commercial Solutions for Classified (CSfC) Program Component List.

The Samsung Galaxy S4, S5, Note 3, Note 4, Note 10.1 (2014 edition), Note Edge, Alpha, Tab S 8.4 and Tab S 10.5 have all been added to the list, becoming the first consumer mobile devices to receive such clearance.

The Korean manufacturer says this demonstrates how its devices and the Knox mobile device management (MDM) platform meet the most “stringent and vital” security standards.

“The inclusion of Samsung mobile devices on the CSfC list proves the unmatched security of Samsung Galaxy devices supported by the KNOX platform,” said JK Shin, CEO and president of Samsung’s  IT and mobile business. “At Samsung, we continue to address today’s increasingly complex security challenges, and are committed to delivering the most reliable mobile platform satisfying the needs of professionals in all industries, from SMBs and enterprises to governments and additional regulated markets.”

Earlier this year, Knox was approved for use by the US Department of Defense (DoD) by the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA). It is currently the only manufacturer with devices on bth the CSfC and DISA lists.

Knox has also been approved by the UK’s Communications and Electronic Security Group (CESG) for use in public sector organisations, although it is worth pointing out that this was for version 1.0 of Knox, with guidance on Knox 2.0 due to be issued later this year.
