Samsung Galaxy Tab Prices Slashed

Competition in the UK tablet market is heating up ahead of Christmas, as Samsung reduces the price of its 16GB Galaxy Tab to just £469 from Amazon and Dixons. The price also includes free delivery.

Mobile phone retailer, the Carphone Warehouse, has also cut the price down to £489.99, while offering 32GB of internal storage.

Following the UK launch last month, the device was listed at between £600 and £700 – substantially more than its main rival, the 16GB 3G iPad, which is sold at £529. However, this new competitive pricing could make it a viable competitor.

A Cheaper Substitute for iPad

Samsung’s Galaxy Tab features a TFT-LCD 7-inch screen and a Cortex A8 1GHz processor, paired with Google’s Android 2.2 operating system. It comes with 16GB of internal memory as standard, scalable to 32GB of external memory, as well as Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity.

Unlike the iPad, the Galaxy Tab offers a camera and the ability to use it as a phone should you wish. And of course, it supports Flash. Tesco also announced it would sell the device for £529.99 last month.

Samsung is yet to release official sales record for the tablet. However, it expects to ship a million units by the end of 2010.
