Samsung Galaxy Tab Lands In The UK

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is available across the UK from today.

Following an exclusive early launch at PC World’s flagship store on Tottenham Court Road yesterday, it has now been rolled out nationwide alongside accessories including keyboard, desk dock and car charger.

The company has made various adjustments to the device since it was first announced, drastically reducing its weight and size, setting its sights firmly on the iPad.

iPad killer?

The £399 Android tablet will run the tablet-specific Honeycomb 3.1 OS but with Samsung’s proprietary Touchwiz 4.0 user interface.

Samsung  claims the Galaxy 10.1 is the world’s thinnest tablet at 8.6mm thick and, at 565g, is lighter than any other 10” tablet. There is the option of 16GB, 32GB or 64GB memory.

Today’s announcement from Samsung says that Galaxy Tab 10.1 is available in Wi-Fi only at Dixons, Currys and PC World.

The 3G version will be made available at a range of retailers and operators including Vodafone, Carphone Warehouse and Tesco later this month.

The Tab supports Adobe Flash Player, boasts a 1GHz dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2 chip and both front and rear facing cameras.

However the rear facing camera is only three megapixels as compared to previously announced eight megapixels. The Tab can record in 720p HD and  playback 1080p full HD

eWEEK Europe UK reviewed the Samsung galaxy 10.1 tablet in June this year, rating it as one to watch, as competition in the tablet sector continues to heat up.

Samsung also plans to release the slightly smaller Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 in this country later this year.
