Samsung’s Rugged Galaxy Tab Active Now Available In The UK

Samsung has revealed that its Galaxy Tab Active tablet is now available in the UK following the signing of a distribution deal with Exertis.

The ‘ruggedised’ tablet, which runs Android 4.4 KitKat and is available in both Wi-Fi and 4G models, is specifically targeted towards B2B enterprise use, particularly amongst heavy industries such as  manufacturing, oil and gas, and energy sectors.

It will be available for businesses to purchase over the next six months; with Exertis providing sector-specific offerings which it says will greatly improve the end user experience.

The Galaxy Tab Active features an eight inch1280 x800px  screen powered by a 1.2GHz processor and 2GB of RAM. It also features a 3.1MP rear camera, 16GB of internal memory and a 4450mAh battery which Samsung claims will support eight to 10 hours of ‘near-continuous usage’, and can be replaced if it runs out.

It is the device’s protective features which help it stand out, however, as the tablet, which weighs 393g, is able to withstand a 1.2 metre drop thanks to an anti-shock covering, while it also has IP67 dust and water certification, providing the ability to operate in wet and dry environments and hot and cold temperatures.

The Galaxy Tab Active also comes with a protective front cover and a C Pen accessory to ensure it can be used out in the field, and from an information security perspective, features the latest version of Samsung’s Knox enterprise security platform.

“Samsung’s Galaxy Tab Active device has been designed to address the requirements and challenges faced by business users,” said Graham Long, Samsung’s vice president of enterprise business.

“The enterprise technology landscape has shifted dramatically, driven by the demand for devices that appeal to consumers while being able to cope with the challenging requirements of professional use.”

The availability of the Galaxy Tab Active comes shortly after Samsung announced a deal with SAP to develop industry-specific apps across the company’s mobile devices. The partnership will combine Samsung’s hardware and SAP’s mobile application platform alongside the SAP HANA cloud platform to create tools that can help companies create custom business apps for devices running Android or Tizen.
