Samsung Galaxy S4 To Be Announced at MWC 2013?

Korean newspaper suggests that 5-inch Samsung Galaxy S4 could be released in March

Samsung will reportedly unveil the successor to the Samsung Galaxy S III at Mobile World Congress in February, according to a Korean newspaper.

Executives at the company as well as local parts suppliers told The Korea Times that the Samsung Galaxy S IV, as it is unofficially known, will hit shelves in March – nine months after the release of the Galaxy S III.

The smartphone will compete with the recently-announced iPhone 5, but the Korean manufacturer is confident that the Samsung Galaxy S III will hold its own against Apple’s latest offering.

The Galaxy S IV will run Google’s Android mobile operating system and will boast a five-inch OLED screen, an increase from the 4.8-inch display of the S III, according to the reports. Samsung is apparently undecided as to whether it will use flexible display technology, possible due to a desire to maintain a one-year product schedule.

Executives from Samsung’s local part suppliers have apparently confirmed that the smartphone will “definitely” include support for 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) networks and will use in-house Exynos branded processors and quad-core chips.

There will be no major external changes and the device will retain a rectangular form with rounded corners, although Samsung is apparently in talks with major American carriers about applying modified designs – following the US case which ruled Samsung should pay Apple $1 billion for infringing the iPhone’s design.

The Samsung Galaxy S III was launched in May and has gone on to shift more than 20 million units in its first one hundred days on sale. It will be Samsung’s immediate challenger to the iPhone 5, which was announced last week and goes on sale this Friday.
