Samsung Galaxy S III Sales Reach 10 Million

Samsung Galaxy S III sales have surpassed ten million less than two months after it was released, according a senior executive of the world’s largest mobile phone manufacturer.

Shin Jong-Kyun, president of Samsung Information Technology and Mobile Communications division told South Korean news agency Yonhap that its new flagship smartphone had reached the milestone, but did not disclose any exact sales figures.

If true, this means that Samsung has sold 190,000 units every day since the S3 was released in late May. It is predicted that with the iPhone 5 not being released until the fourth quarter of 2012 at the earliest, sales could remain strong for the next few months.

Strong Samsung Galaxy S III Sales

The figure won’t come as a surprise to Samsung which had anticipated that the ten million barrier would be broken this month, becoming the company’s fastest selling device in the process. If true, it will build on record profits recorded in the second quarter of the year, which were up by nearly 80 percent from last year and owed much to the success of the Galaxy range of smartphones.

The Galaxy S III was unveiled at an event in London in May and claims to be “designed for humans.” It runs version 4.0 of Android, Ice Cream Sandwich, and is powered by a quad-core processer. It has a 4.8-inch AMOLED screen, voice and facial recognition technology as well as support for Near Field Communication (NFC) and Long Term Evolution (LTE) services in markets where they exist.

It made its UK debut at the end of the same month, but customers what wanted either the 32GB marble white or 16GB and 32GB pebble blue versions were forced to wait a little while longer.
