Samsung Chromebook 2 Set For May UK Release

Both variants of the Samsung Chromebook 2 will be released in the UK in May, with the black 11.6-inch laptop being made available on 1 May and the 13.6 inch model arriving on 12 May.

The ChromeOS-based laptops were first shown off by Samsung earlier this month and promise to be faster and slimmer than the Korean manufacturer’s earlier attempts, while they should also have longer battery life.

Samsung claims the Chromebook 2 can wake up in less than one second and cold boot in ten seconds, while it also says its processor technology ensures eight and a half hours of use from a single charge.

“Since we introduced our first Chromebook in 2011, Samsung has been committed to continually developing the design and features of the series to meet our customers’ ever-changing needs, while staying true to the core Chromebook attributes of simplicity, speed and security,” declared Simon Stanford, Vice President of Samsung’s mobile division for the UK and Ireland. “The Chromebook 2 Series does just that, which is why we’re delighted to be bringing the devices to the UK market.”

It is unclear how much the Chromebooks will cost in the UK, but at launch it was revealed that the 11.6-inch model would cost $319.99 (£192), and the 13.3-inch at $399.99 (£240) in the US.

Google recently announced it was partnering with VMware to make it easier for companies to deploy Chromebooks in the enterprise as the search giant seeks to gain the support of businesses for the concept.
