RBS And Natwest Launch Mobile Phone Cash Withdrawals

Customers of RBS and Natwest are now able to withdraw funds from their accounts using only their mobile phone thanks to the launch of GetCash.

They will be able to access their money without their debit or credit card by entering a six digit PIN generated by the RBS and Natwest mobile application. Once the PIN has been entered, the cash is distributed accordingly.

Get cash

The service is being presented as a solution to lost or forgotten cards, a way to send cash to friends and family and an alternative to using cards entirely. Natwest already operates an emergency cash offering, which has been used by 60,000 people in the past year and the positive feedback has resulted in it being extended to the mobile app.

RBS and Natwest have promised that the launch of GetCash is just one of a number of mobile developments that will allow them to offer the “most integrated payment platform available” and claim that these services will provide the first genuine alternative to a customer’s wallet.

“This has never been done anywhere in the UK, and yet is a really simple and secure way to help our customers get cash whenever and wherever they need it,” said Ben Green, head of mobile at Natwest and RBS. “We’ve heard countless stories from customers who’ve left their wallet behind, or parents who need a quick way to send money across to their children immediately – GetCash means these problems have been solved in a totally secure and painless way.”

Mobile banking has proved popular despite ongoing security concerns, such as the Zeus malware. Online banking in general is rapidly becoming the favoured method of Brits to manage their finances, with web users logging in 110 times every year and one in four accessing it every day.
