Quiz Of The Week: Women In Tech

Right now, there are move visible and powerful women in the tech industry than ever before, but women’s groups say there’s still a long way to go before the industry shakes off its historic gender bias. Our quiz shows just how far we have come.

With women at the top of tech titans IBM, HP (Ginny Rometty, pictured) and Yahoo!, as well as other organisations, it might look as if the tech gender struggle is over. But companies still complain they aren’t getting female applicants for tech jobs, and girls are still put off tech subjects at school.

It’s not just for boys!

Europe has strong voices for women’s involvement in tech – the Commissioner for the Digital Agenda is the doughty Neelie Kroes, and Justice Commissioner Viviane Reding has also had plenty to say on the subject.

In the UK, portals such as Women In Technology exist to promote careers, and there’s a Geek Feminism Wiki to discuss the issues, along with groups like Ladies Who Code, to get down to the nitty gritty and network with women programmers.

If all that sounds too serious, and you just want to flex your knowledge of women tech heroes – and the odds against which they contend – we can offer you something.
