Quiz Of The Week: Cisco – Network Giant

Cisco has dominated the network world pretty much since networks began. It began with the first multiprotocol router, and has gone from strength to strength through clever acquisitions since then.

But can you name its key products and its significant staff? This week’s quiz will test your Cisco knowledge, in the aftermath of its annual European jamboree, the Cisco Live event in London.

Rapid Cisco growth

Founded from a university network operation in 1984, the company rapidly staked out control over the market for switches and routers, expanding out from enterprise networking to service providers, and then made a successful bid for a big chunk of the converged network market in data centres, with its Unified Computing System.

It’s made some slip-ups on the way, of course – notably its bid for the consumer market with Linksys and the Flip video camera. But the company survived the craziness of the dotcom years very well, and is now competing against all comers in new markets.

Along with the products, our quiz will test you on some obscurities – like the book written by one of Cisco’s founders.
