Queen’s Christmas Message To Be Broadcast In 3D

The Queen’s Christmas broadcast will be screened in 3D for the first time this year, according to Buckingham Palace.

In the speech the Queen will highlight this year’s Olympics, which provided a “splendid summer of sport”, and will honour the Olympic and Paralympic athletes with their “skill, dedication, training and teamwork”.

New technology

The 3D broadcast comes 80 years after George V initiated the annual transmissions with the first radio Christmas speech.

The Queen decided to utilise the new technology on the occasion of her Diamond Jubilee, which was celebrated in June across the UK.

It will be transmitted on television and radio at 15:00 GMT on Christmas Day, in both standard and high-definition, and will also be distributed on YouTube’s Royal Channel.

Produced by Sky News, the message was recorded in the white drawing room of Buckingham Palace and features footage of the Queen wearing 3D glasses as she watches part of the broadcast.

The monarch found the broadcast “absolutely lovely”, according to a Buckingham Palace spokeswoman.
