Apple has updated the 12-inch MacBook with sixth generation Intel Core M processors, more memory, faster flash storage and a longer battery life.
The updated version of the model, first released last year, can now be ordered with processors up to 1.3GHz, which turbo boosts up to 3.1GHz, and faster 1866MHz memory.
Apple has now made 8GB of memory standard for all variations of the 13 inch MacBook, which now claims to have up to 25 percent faster graphics performance thanks to Intel HD Graphics 515. The inclusion of faster PCIe storage should mean boot up times and application loading is significantly speedier.
The new MacBook is available from today in gold, silver and space grey coloured unibody cases, as well as a new variety – rose gold. The pinkish hue has adorned an iPhone, but never before a MacBook.
The laptop weighs 920g, is 1.31cm thick and comes with OS X El Capitan and iWork applications as standard. In terms of connectivity, it has 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and USB-C support.
“MacBook is the thinnest and lightest Mac we have ever made and it’s our vision for the future of the notebook,” boasted Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “Customers are going to love this update to MacBook, with the latest processors, faster graphics, faster flash storage, longer battery life and a beautiful rose gold finish.”
The entry-level model comes with a 1.1GHz dual core Intel Core M3 processor, with turbo boosted speeds of up to 2.2GHz, 8GB of RAM, 256GB of storage and costs £1,049. Naturally this cost comes up with the addition of more power and features.
According to IDC, Apple is the fourth biggest PC manufacturer in the world, shipping 4.7 million Macs in the most recent quarter. This was down 2.1 percent year on year, but still enough for a 7.4 percent share of the global market.
