A PayPal strategy executive has left the tech giant, leaving Twitter posts criticising other members of the company.
Rakesh “Rocky” Agrawal said he had resigned on Friday, before he unleashed a tirade of tweets, which were subsequently deleted. A tweet from PayPal was unclear about whether Agrawal was fired for his invective over Twitter or had resigned.
“Rakesh Agrawal is no longer with the company,” PayPal said over Twitter. “Treat everyone with respect. No excuses. PayPal has zero tolerance.”
But Agrawal later added: “The tweet from PayPal is factually correct but utterly misleading. I resigned before the events of Friday night.”
Before they were deleted, the messages reportedly criticised a number of PayPal execs, including communications chief Christina Smedley and retail lead Don Kingsborough.
In a statement to Re/code, Agrawal, who was hired only two months ago, said: “I can confirm that I resigned early [Friday] evening. I then went out with friends who I haven’t seen in two years.
“I have huge respect for David Marcus, Stan Chudnovsky and Hill Ferguson. I also think that Anuj Nayar is one of the best PR people I’ve worked with. I wish the team the best of luck in reinventing commerce.”
Further tweets indicated Agrawal is planning on setting up his own business. “A different kind of CEO building a different kind of company. Starting for real tomorrow in media capital of world.”
