Microsoft OneDrive Android App Now Manages Personal And Business Accounts

Microsoft has updated the Android app for its OneDrive cloud storage service, adding the ability to manage both personal and business accounts in the same application.

The company stresses that all personal and work files will be kept separate and users informed when they are accessing each account so there is no danger of uploading holiday snaps to a work folder.

“Because people are increasingly using the same devices and apps to get things done at work and at home, the ability to store and share files in the cloud is essential on both fronts,” explains Jason Moore, group programme manager of OneDrive.

The Android app now supports four digit PIN protection and the camera backup features has been made faster and more reliable, upgrades that will also come to the OneDrive iOS and Windows Phone applications in the coming months.

But the other OneDrive apps have also received some attention. The iOS app now has a native search bar and new photo display options, while Microsoft has fixed some bugs in its Windows Phone app, while improving the recycle bin feature so users can easily recover accidentally deleted files.

Microsoft recently doubled the amount of free storage it offers to OneDrive users from 7GB to 15GB, saying the changes reflected that users are not just storing files in the cloud, but now want to collaborate and perform more activities.

OneDrive for Business is aimed at SMB users, while Office 365 subscribers receive 1TB of storage as standard. The service competes with other business focused cloud platforms such as Dropbox for Business and Box.
