Nokia N9 Images Appear Online
Images of what seems to be the Nokia N9, a potential replacement for the Nokia N900, have appeared online
Amidst all the excitement surrounding the arrival of the Nokia N8 smartphone, detailed photographs of another device, the Nokia N9, have appeared online
The photos appeared on the webpages of Russian blogger and tipster Eldar Murtazin, and include photos showing a detailed breakdown of the innards of the phone, which seems to be a natural replacement for the N900 ‘mobile computer’ that runs Maemo, Nokia’s Linux version which Nokia is contributing to its joint Meego Linux development with Intel
Certainly, it seems from the images that the next generation QWERTY device has a sleeker chassis than the Nokia N900.
N900 Replacement?
The images suggest the device comes with a full aluminium body (although it could be painted plastic), rubber keys, and perhaps preloaded with MeeGo, the mobile operating system being developed by Nokia and Intel.
Nokia has already stated that its flagship N series phones will be dropping Symbian after the N8 finally arrives. But it also hinted that in the future its N-series phones might switch back to a future version of Symbian.
Challenging Times
It is an interesting time for the Finnish handset giant. Nokia is losing market share, but still has a massive lead in phones generally as well as smartphones. The company is reported to be looking for a new boss, so this year’s Nokia World might be Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo’s last.
If this images turn out to be genuine, it has been suggested that Nokia could unveil the N9 at the Nokia World in London, next month. However the news that the Nokia’s highly anticipated N8 smartphone could miss Nokia World will not go down with with loyal users waiting for an genuine iPhone competitor.
