Nokia Lumia 510 Is ‘Most Affordable Lumia’ Yet

Nokia has announced a new budget smartphone, the Nokia Lumia 510, which it has called its “most affordable Lumia so far.”

The Lumia 510 will run Windows Phone 7.5 Tango – meaning that it will not be upgradable to the latest version of the Microsoft operating system due to be released next week. It appears to be the successor the pocket money-priced Nokia Lumia 610 which was released last May.

The device will be released in a number of developing markets in November and will cost $199 (£125) before any local taxes or operator subsidies are applied. It will be available in five colours – red, yellow, cyan, white and black.

Nokia claims that the smartphone’s four-inch capacitive touch display separates it from its rivals, while its five megapixel autofocus camera allows images to be shared instantly with social networks or stored in the cloud with 7GB of free SkyDrive storage.

The Nokia Lumia 510 is powered by a Qualcomm S1 processor and is backed up by 256MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage. It comes preloaded with Microsoft Office applications and the Internet Explorer 9 browser, along with Nokia Maps, Drive and Transport.

Nokia is due to release the Lumia 920 next month, its first Windows Phone 8-based smartphone. The new flagship smartphone is seen as vital for the struggling Finnish manufacturer which has sustained massive losses in recent times and is currently undergoing a period of restructuring.

Its most recent set of results showed that sales of Lumia smartphones actually decreased in the last quarter as consumers wait for Windows Phone 8.
