41 Megapixel Nokia Lumia 1020 Set For Thursday Reveal

Images purporting to be the Nokia Lumia 1020 have surfaced on the Internet from a variety of sources, ahead of the smartphone’s expected announcement on Thursday.

The Nokia Lumia 1020 is widely believed to feature the Finnish manufacturer’s 41 megapixel camera technology and the device’s existence appeared to be confirmed by images posted to Windows Phone manager Joe Belfiore’s personal Flickr account earlier this week.

These photos have now been set as ‘private’, but Windows Phone Central has published images claiming to be the smartphone itself. The pictures show a smartphone that appears to come with a a 41 megapixel camera and in black, yellow and white varieties.

The Nokia Lumia 1020 will also supposedly include Nokia’s Optical Image Stabilsation (OIS) software seen on the Nokia Lumia 920, 925 and 928, which should allow it to take non-blurry photos in low light.

The smartphone will reportedly include 2GB of RAM, 1GB more than other high-end Windows Phone 8 smartphones, and 32GB of RAM, but no MicroSD card slot. Wireless charging will apparently be possible through an optional back plate, but the phone will have NFC connectivity.

The @evleaks Twitter account, which previously leaked details of the Nokia Lumia 920, has also posted photos claiming to be the device and has suggested it could even be called the Nokia Lumia 909, although Belfiore’s Flickr activity would appear to contradict this theory.

In any case, the smartphone would be the first Windows Phone 8 handset to boast the 41 megapixel technology which was first included in the Symbian-based Nokia 808 PureView, which was unveiled at Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona last year.
