Is This The New Google Nexus 6?

More details appear to have emerged concerning the next version of Google’s Nexus smartphone, the Nexus 6.

The new device, which is expected to be made by Motorola, has been highly anticipated following the previous successes of its predecessors, which won praise for the low price and high specifications.

A new image mocked up by Android Police combines all of the available information released so far regarding the Nexus 6, which could be announced as soon as mid-October and is set to go on sale for around £349.

The device is expected to feature a 5.9in 2560×1440 QHD display – making it larger than the iPhone 6 – and will be powered by a next-generation 2.7GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and 3GB of RAM. Also reported to be on board the Nexus 6 is a 13-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilisation, 2-megapixel front-facing shooter and a “3200+ mAh” battery which should offer all-day battery life.

Elegant design

Taking inspiration from recent devices released by Apple and HTC, the Nexus 6 will come with a part metal body which should help reinforce the phone against shocks and damage, and will likely include the personalisation options available to customers purchasing Motorola’s recent Moto G smartphone.

The design of the device is expected to be slightly different from previous generations of the Nexus, with the volume controls, power buttons and speakers all shifted to fit in with the Nexus 6’s larger body.

According to the report, the Nexus 6 will run the next version of Google’s Android operating software, codenamed Android L, which should feature a redesigned interface and changes to key apps, and include support for wireless charging via Motorola’s Turbo Charger.

Google’s last smartphone, the Nexus 5 (pictured above), was released in November 2013. Built by LG, the device was the first to run on Android 4.4 KitKat and cost £299 on launch.
