Microsoft has started rolling out Mobile Device Management (MDM) features to Office 365 business customers, allowing organisations to secure and control corporate data more effectively across multiple devices and platforms – including iOS, Android and Windows Phone.
The MDM features were announced last October and will be made included as part of new and existing commercial subscriptions, including business, enterprise and government plans, over the coming weeks.
A selective wipe feature allows data from Office 365 applications to be remotely wiped without affecting the rest of the smartphone or tablet, something which Microsoft thinks will appeal to companies with BYOD policies. The company says those looking to manage devices beyond Office 365 can subscribe to the company’s Intune platform, which is part of the Enterprise Mobility Suite.
Microsoft has been pushing Office 365 heavily to both business and consumers over the past year, refreshing SMB and enterprise plans while also launching personal subscriptions alongside applications for iPad, iPhone and Android.
Most recently, at Microsoft Convergence in Atlanta, the company launched social collaboration service Delve, which allows employees to share and interact with the work done by their colleagues and find relevant files. The company claims it now has more than seven million personal and home Office 365 subscribers.
