Major Windows 10 Update Coming Next Month

Microsoft is reportedly preparing a major update for Windows 10 next month as it looks to respond to the huge numbers of customers using the software.

The release, codenamed ‘Threshold 2’, will bring a wide range of user interface and software improvements to Windows 10, including updates to some of the most popular apps such as Messaging and Skype.

The Verge reports that Microsoft is set to roll out the update to existing Windows 10 users in early November, and likely during the first week of next month, and will be made automatically available to those users upgrading directly from Windows 7 or 8.

Upgraded

Among the other updates are an improved Media Creation Tool, new locales and other new features for Cortana, and various Edge improvements, all of which were originally scheduled to be included in the initial build of Windows 10 but ultimately missed out.

But it will also include the option of coloured title bars for desktop apps, improved context menus, and an extra column of Live Tiles for the Start menu.

Since its release back in September, Microsoft has seen a huge take-up in Windows 10, which is its attempt to create a truly cross-platform software experience.

Earlier this month, the company claimed that 110 million devices across the world were now running Windows 10, which is still available as a free upgrade to any users still running Windows 7 and 8.

Microsoft says its mission is to get Windows 10 running on more than one billion devices, while businesses are also being encouraged to upgrade.

A recent TechWeekEurope poll showed that 75 percent of readers plan to download Windows 10, which has been greeted by a strong critical response.

A mobile version of Windows 10 will be released later this year, replacing Windows Phone, with the promise it will work just as well on the small screen as it does on PC and tablet.
