Low-cost ZTE Light Tab Coming At End Of February

ZTE’s new low-cost tablet, the ZTE V9A Light Tab 2, will arrive in the UK at the end of February, according to retailer Clove.

Clove has started taking pre-orders for the device, which will cost £234.99, putting it in the same price bracket as the Amazon Kindle Fire, which currently has no UK release date.

Low cost tablet

The seven-inch tablet was announced last year and features a 1.4GHz processor, which ZTE claims is faster than most single or dual core products currently available and apparently allows for high-speed multitasking.

The 1024 x 600 resolution touchscreen is capable of displaying high definition video, while standard features such as GPS, 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity are all included. The low cost of the Light Tab is reflected in the standard of the camera, with just a three megapixel rear-facing camera on board.

The device also runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread rather than the latest version of the mobile operating system, 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

The tablet is the latest low-cost product to be released in the UK and last week it launched what it claimed was the most affordable 4.3 inch Windows Phone ever to be released in the UK, the ZTE Tania.

It is hoped that the ZTE Light Tab will replicate the success of the Amazon Kindle Fire, which was on track to sell over four million units during the Christmas period in the US. This has contributed to an increased market share for Android tablets, eating into Apple’s stranglehold on the market.

It had been long predicted that Apple’s control of the market would be eroded, but it was revealed in November that the iPad still has an 83 percent market share in the US.
