Lenovo Shows Off 3D High-Def Notebook
Lenovo has embraced 3D with its entertainment-centric Y560d notebook, which comes with a HD screen and suround sound
Lenovo has revealed its first multimedia laptop that comes with a 3D display as well as the TriDef 3D technology solution, which includes a 3D screen, software and glasses.
The Lenovo IdeaPad Y560d should be available by the end of the month, and is expected to retail for $1,199.99 (£811).
The 15.6-inch Y560d 3D-enabled multimedia laptop, with its high-definition 16:9 widescreen and polarizer glasses, will be available with JBL-designed speakers and Dolby Home Theatre surround sound.

Powered with up to an Intel Core i7 processor featuring Intel Turbo Boost Technology for delivering extra gigahertz when needed, the notebook also boasts an ATI Radeon HD5730 1GB graphics card.
With TriDef 3D technology, users can also experience 3D on their standard 2D videos and photos, and the TriDef Media Player transforms a standard movie into a 3D experience. In addition, the TriDef Photo Transformer application turns standard photos into 3D. With Switchable Graphics, users can also toggle between performance and energy-saving modes for extended battery life.
The notebook also includes an optional Blu-ray disc drive, HD graphics support and an HDMI output for connecting to other HD devices such as a TV or gaming console.
“Fun is a notebook that brings multimedia to life – and the IdeaPad Y560d does this in a dramatic fashion with a truly unique 3D viewing experience,” said Dion Weisler, vice president of business operations for Lenovo. “While 3D technology has been around for ages, it has not been readily accessible to consumers within the home. Lenovo is helping bridge this gap by delivering consumers a 3D experience on a familiar PC platform that can be viewed and enjoyed when and where they want.”
Faster Boot Up
The Y560d laptop includes Lenovo’s Enhanced Experience RapidDrive technology, which combines SSD and HDD storage solutions to deliver faster Windows 7 boot-up times and improve application performance. Enhanced Experience for Windows 7 is a Lenovo-specific certification that delivers an optimised boot-up and shutdown process, multimedia capabilities, and system maintenance tools.
Lenovo claims with RapidDrive technology, users can experience Windows 7 boot-up 66 percent faster, start applications twice as fast and copy files within the computer in less than half the time.
The Y560d can be configured with up to 8GB DDR3 memory and up to 750GB HDD storage, the company noted, and it comes with features such as an intelligent touch-sensitive slide bar application for desktop navigation, OneKey Theater II for optimized video playback and an ambient light sensor that automatically adjusts the PC screen brightness based on the user’s distance from the display.
