Lantronix Adds Mobile To Print Server Range

Machine to machine connectivity solutions specialist Lantronix announced the launch of its xPrintServer Cloud Print Edition mobile printing device, which enables an organisations’ supported printers to print using cloud print technology from Android OS mobile devices, as well as any device running Google’s Chrome browser and Chrome operating system.

The xPrintServer Cloud Print Edition retails for $149.95 (£95) and is currently available for pre-order from Lantronix. The product will begin shipping on 28 February, a company release said.

Automatic configuration

“With millions of businesses adopting smart devices in the workplace, more and more are seeking easy to adopt printing solutions that allow them to cost-effectively leverage their existing networked printers,” Kurt Busch, Lantronix president and chief executive, said in a statement. “The launch of our new xPrintServer – Cloud Print Edition rounds out our xPrintServer family by addressing more than half of the multi-billion dollar mobile printing market.”

Roughly the size of a smartphone, the device requires no additional software downloads or printer driver installations, thanks to automatic printer discovery and configuration. Users just open the box, plug the xPrintServer into the network, and it automatically links all user IDs to all printers on the network, enabling cloud printing automatically.

The xPrintServer supports any device, including tablets, smartphones, PCs, and notebooks, running Google’s Chrome browser. The product also supports business users of Google Apps, a cloud-based productivity suite that helps businesses connect and get work done from anywhere on any device.

“In addition to providing users of Android and Chrome-based devices with the ability to print to any supported printer from any device — the new xPrintServer allows users to print to their printer from anywhere in the world using cloud print technology,” Busch continued. “It also works seamlessly with Google’s increasingly popular portfolio of business productivity tools and services such as Google Apps and Google Docs.”

Hardware support

The xPrintServer family currently supports a wide variety of networked printer models from printer specialists including HP, Brother, Epson, Canon, Dell, Lexmark, and Xerox. However, the company noted printers supported by xPrintServer may vary for different editions of the xPrintServer.

For native mobile printing from iOS devices, Lantronix offers the xPrintServer Home Edition and xPrintServer Office Edition. The Office Edition retails for $199.95, and the Home Edition retails for $99.95. Both iOS editions are currently available through the company’s website.

“We are already thrilled with the ease of use and performance of the iOS-version of the xPrintServer, and believe the new Cloud Print Edition will further solidify Lantronix’s place as a leader in mobile printing,” Kyle Yost, partner at En-Net Services, a Maryland-based Lantronix reseller and provider of networking, IT, and energy consulting services, said in a statement.
