iPhone 5 To Have Larger Screen, New Reports Say

Reports from South Korea are suggesting that the next iPhone will boast a larger and sharper 4.6-inch display.

Rumours that the iPhone 5 would have a larger retina display have persisted for some time, with fresh ones emerging just last month.

Bigger is better

The latest claims were made by the Maeil Business Newspaper who reported that an unnamed source had told them that Apple had made the decision to go with the larger screen and had placed orders to its suppliers. However Reuters says that Apple’s two major display suppliers, LG and Samsung, had so far remained silent over the issue.

The South Korean media is also suggesting that the iPhone 5 will be launched in the second quarter of this year.

The retina display debuted with the release of the iPhone 4, while the new iPad was the first Apple tablet to feature the technology, which will reportedly be used in its future MacBook Pro computers. Critics have praised the new iPad’s display, but there were concerns that Apple would not have enough of them to satisfy demand, a rumour which the company has moved to quash.

The most recent edition of the iPhone, the 4S, was released in October last year to critical claim, despite some disappointment that it was more of an incremental update than the true successor to the iPhone 4. However it is thought that the next upgrade will be the iPhone 5 and will be announced at some point later this year.
