iOS 7.1 Set For March Release – Report

The next major release of Apple’s mobile operating system, iOS 7.1, will likely be made available in early March, according to BGR, bringing a host of improvements and new features to iPhone and iPad devices.

The fifth beta version of iOS 7.1 has just gone live, but it is reported that Apple doesn’t plan to release another beta version of the software and is expected to launch a gold master version for developers before the update is made available to the public.

iOS 7.1 launch date

A number of minor iterations have been released since iOS 7 went live in September last year, mainly security updates and other fixes, but this is the first major update since then. iOS 7 was described as the most significant overhaul of the platform since it was first launched in 2007, offering a completely redesigned interface, new control centre and enhanced multitasking.

It has proved popular, with iOS 7 now running on 80 percent of all Apple devices, and iOS 7.1 is expected to add some visual updates as well as a special car display enabling the use of music, messaging and maps while driving. It is also possible that iOS 7.1 will have an affect on  the first jailbreak for iOS 7, Evasi0n7, which was released by a group known as evad3rd last December. The jailbreak may fail on the new version.

Apple sold a record 51 million iPhones during the fourth quarter of 2013, a new record for the company, which is the world’s second largest smartphone manufacturer behind rival Samsung.
