Imation Boosts Capacity On Removable Storage Devices
Imation has increased the capacity of its Defender line of flash storage devices and upgraded its security software
Removable storage device maker Imation introduced some larger-capacity additions to its Defender product line along with some upgraded security software on 14 February at the RSA Conference in San Francisco.
The Minnesota-based company unveiled 64GB versions of its Defender F100, F150 and F200 +Biometric Flash Drives and will be demonstrating them on the conference show floor. Previously, the company’s flash drives were available at 8GB, 16GB and 32GB capacities.
Security management
Imation also is using the event to showcase a pair of new security management software options. These enhancements help small- to medium-sized businesses in sectors such as government, health care, retail and financial services better manage the risks and responsibilities of increasing data growth and portability, a company spokesperson said.
The new Defender F200 +Biometric Flash Drive features a fast hardware-dedicated security processor that provides advanced portable security through FIPS (Federal Information Processing Standards) 140-2, Level 3 validated AES 256-bit hardware encryption, authentication, manageability and biometrics, Imation said.
Ergonomic swipe sensor
Advanced security features in the F200 include an ergonomic swipe sensor for two-factor authentication with strong password and/or biometric fingerprint identification – security that goes far beyond standard password security. It also provides protection against malware in virtually any environment; it comes housed in a rugged metal casing, so the F200 is tamper resistant, crush resistant, waterproof and dustproof, Imation said.
The Defender Collection Software Suite is aimed at government agencies, the health care industry, financial services, and small- to medium-sized businesses because it has the ability to customise and enforce device authentication and security policies. It also features reporting, as well as the ability to recover passwords, manage keys and remotely disable devices that are lost or stolen, Imation said.
The RSA Conference continues through 18 February at the Moscone Centre.
