LTE Cat 6 Huawei Honor 6 Is World’s ‘Fastest’ LTE Smartphone

Huawei has announced the launch of Honor, a new consumer smartphone brand which it says will offer high end specifications at a cheaper price than its competitiors.

The new brand signalled its arrival with the launch of the Honor 6, a 5.5 inch Android smartphone which it says offers the fastest internet connection available on the market today.

The device, which will run Android KitKat 4.4, is powered by an octa-core Kirin920 chipset which can support LTE Cat6 protocols, which are twice as fast as current 4G networks, meaning it should be able to achieve download speeds of up to 300Mbps – provided there is an operator capable of delivering such speeds.

Honor even promises an extensive battery life thanks to a 3100mAh battery combined with and SmartPower2.0 technology, which it says will last for more than 2 days of regular usage and over a day’s heavy usage.

The 7.5mm thick device, which weighs just 130g,sports a 5.0-inch FHD in-cell display with a pixel density of 441ppi, coated in a special anti-fingerprint coating to avoid smudges on the high quality images and video. It comes with a 13 megapixel rear camera which Honor claims is the fastest on the market, taking photos just 0.6 seconds to capture an image, which can also be done by double tapping the volume down button, meaning there is no need to switch the screen on first.

The Honor 6, which will be available in 16 or 32GB versions, will only be available to buy via Amazon, where it is on sale for £249.99 from today.

This is due to what Honor calls its C2B (consumer to business) strategy which focuses investment away from glitzy high-street launches and towards research and development, which it says is hugely different to most other offerings on the market.

The company says it is living by the motto “By the consumer, for the consumer”, showing that Huawei is making a big push towards Western markets as it looks to improve its brand awareness following several high-profile incidents.

“We are aiming to develop Honor as the top Android brand through the ‘By the consumer, for the consumer’ philosophy’,” said Jeff Liu, president of Honor. “Honor is a brand designed to meet the needs of its consumers, to give them choice, quality and freedom and, ultimately, save them money – Honor is a new lifestyle.”

Earlier this month, Huawei reported a 26 percent rise in smartphone shipments as it continues its rapid expansion throughout the world. The company shipped 16.8 million devices across the world over the last three months, a quarter of which were mid or high-end models – like the Honor 6.
