HTC Launches More Mid-Range Desire Phones
HTC looks to continue its push in the mid-range space, with the Desire 601 and 300 models
Troubled smartphone maker HTC has announced two smartphones aimed at the mid-range market, with the Desire 601 and the Desire 300.
The 601 comes with many of the features in the much-loved HTC One, including BlinkFeed content hub and the Zoe HD shooting mode. It also has a rear-facing 5MP camera, a 4.5-inch screen, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 dual-core 1.4GHz processor and LTE compatibility.
HTC hoping for mid-range saviour
The HTC Desire 300 features a Qualcomm Snapdragon dual-core 1GHz processor and a 4.3-inch screen.
This will month will see the 601 launched, with the 300 hitting stores in October.
“For the last 17 years HTC has challenged the mobile industry to develop innovations that change the way in which people use their mobile phone. Now we’re not only changing the way people view the mid-range and entry-level market but setting the bar even higher when it comes to our premium devices and capabilities,” said Peter Chou, CEO of HTC.
The company, which has seen revenue plummet in recent months, is pushing hard in the mid-range space, and launched the Desire 500, a 4.3-inch Android handset, in August.
Its relationship with Microsoft is now likely to be strained, now the Windows maker has bought Nokia’s phone business. HTC has always been a big Android partner, but had Windows Phone devices in its portfolio. Many believe HTC could be acquired if its coffers don’t start filling up again.
